Album Review: Self Titled Album Edge of Free

EdgeOfFree_2017_Press1.jpg

May 24th, 2017-Rock music has always been an outlet for me to cope with my mental health such as depression and anxiety. “Edge of Free” is a band that has no shortness of using rock music to deal with similar issues. Their new self-titled album talks about all the heavy shit that the band has been through together which was similar to what the guitarists Hussey said during an interview.

“Edge of Free” touches on a little bit of everything throughout this album such as depression, drug addiction and recovery. What makes this band unique is they are known to be an acoustic-rock band. I didn’t even know acoustic-rock was even a thing! It also makes sense that their band is from Nashville. Once I listened to their single “Pony” I could hear the Nashville inspiration with the way the singer sings with a little bit of a country twang and noticing that there was only acoustics and no electric guitars. But don’t be fooled by the acoustics because the singers voice adds a rusty and rock and roll sound throughout the whole album. There also singing about deep life experiences that won’t be songs usually praised on the top 100 country hits. The song “Pushin The Needle” is I feel like more about the bands struggles with drug addiction. You can really hear and even feel the singers voice go higher and yell louder in the chorus of the song. When I was listening to it I could defiantly feel his emotions through the speakers and how frustrated he meant to sound while singing this song. On a brighter note the song “In My Time” is about in my perspective the end of the bands drugs addiction and the start of a healthier life. This album is very deep and I recommend it to anyone who has experienced addiction, anxiety or depression at some point of their life which should be almost everyone.

Rock on the Range 2017 Line-up Announced

rotr-pic

Its the year of festivals! Ohio’s famous music festival recently announced their 2017 line-up! Rock on the Range is located in Columbus, Ohio at Mapfre Stadium. This killer three day rock music festival began in the summer of 2007. Previous performers included ZZ Top, Evanescence, Slipknot and many more.

Each year dedicated goers of the festival often referred to as “Rangers” anticipate who is performing this year. After celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2016 there was some criticism on who should have performed. One big name that was brought up is Metallica. Why weren’t they there for an epic celebration of the festivals existence? Well, you won’t be disappointed this year as Metallica has officially been announced as one of the headliners!

The headliners this year include The Offspring, Korn, Soundgarden and the ever so exciting, Metallica. Other notable performers are Primus, Seether, Chevelle, Bush, Alterbridge, Motionless in White, Attila, Pierce the Veil, Skillet, Gojira, In Flames, Sum 41 and many more. There have been one notable change to the festival this year which has caused some slight controversy. There are no more paper tickets! The festival has announced that it will be mailing unique wristbands that contain a Radio Frequency Identification Chip that will allow quick and easy access to the festival. This band will give everyone access that is unique to their ticket purchase.

Make sure you get there early as the festival starts at 11am each day (that’s almost 12 hours of headbanging music per day). Food, alcohol and of course band merch will be available each day (you know you want another band shirt for your collection). ATM’s are available throughout the grounds as well as a medical tent. Showers are even available (phew).

Even though this festival is six months away it has already sold out on camping packages and weekend field stadium general admission. Better hurry and plan for the greatest festival of the year.

Rock on the Range takes place on May 19th, 20th and 21st.
